A scented candle needs a little time. First the wax melts, then the scent drifts through the room, evenly and unhurried. After a while the room smells of a fire in the hearth, of fig leaves or of the forest, depending on which candle is burning.

We carry scented candles from about a dozen brands. Diptyque started in Paris in 1963 with three candles: hawthorn, cinnamon and tea. Among its best known today are Baies, Figuier and Feu de Bois. Trudon traces its history back to a Paris shop from 1643, where Claude Trudon sold spices and candles. Ernesto smells of leather and tobacco. With Forêts, the Parisian florist Christian Tortu brings a fir scent of pine, resin and cedar indoors. Geodesis names many of its candles after a raw material and where it comes from, such as Balsam Fir Canada or Fig Tree Greece. Then there are Nicolaï, Paul Smith, Esteban and Miller et Bertaux, and, before Christmas, Une Forêt d’Or by Annick Goutal.

Scent families help you narrow things down: woody candles for long evenings, citrus ones for the kitchen and the desk, florals for bright rooms. You can smell many of the candles in our stores before you buy.
